Quick Start

This guide will help you quickly get started with OVR Overlay Translator.

Installation Steps

1. Purchase and Install

  1. Visit the Steam Store Page
  2. Purchase the software
  3. Find OVR Overlay Translator in your Steam library and click Install

2. Launch SteamVR

Ensure your VR device is properly connected and SteamVR is launched.

3. Launch the Software

Launch OVR Overlay Translator from your Steam library, and the software will automatically integrate with SteamVR.

On first launch, the software provides an interactive onboarding guide: on the desktop it walks you through key configuration such as interface language, OCR language, translation target language, and voice translation devices step by step; once in VR, there is also a VR in-step tutorial that demonstrates operations such as taking a snapshot, translating, and pinning to the wrist directly on the controller.

Usage Process (OCR Image Translation)

  1. Launch SteamVR and VR game/application
  2. Bring any controller close to your head near your ear
  3. When you see a green rectangle appear, it means you have entered translation preview state
  4. Move the controller, aim the rectangle at the text area you want to translate, and pull the trigger to trigger translation
  5. The translation result will be displayed in the scene as a floating VR overlay
  6. (Optional): Bring the operating controller close to the other wrist (distance less than 0.3 meters), press the grip button, adjust size and position with the joystick, then press the trigger button to fix the translation to the wrist
  7. If you need to clear floating translations, flick the left or right joystick
  8. In pre-translation state, long press the trigger for about 1 second to toggle the translation mode switch

Usage Process (Voice Translation)

  1. Double-press the trigger to switch to voice translation mode
  2. Make sure "Automatically enable voice translation at startup" is turned on in Basic Settings, or manually enable it by long pressing the trigger for about 1 second in voice mode
  3. The software will automatically capture in-game speaker audio (translated into subtitles in your native language) and your microphone audio (translated into the target language)
  4. Short press the trigger to pause/resume speech recognition at any time; flick the joystick to clear voice translation results

Voice translation currently uses local speech recognition; the translation engine supports local translation models or custom translation APIs.

First Use Recommendations

  1. Follow the onboarding guide: On first launch, complete the interface language, OCR language, translation language, and voice translation device configuration as guided.
  2. Set translation language: In the Translation Engine settings, select the source language (optional "Auto-detect") and the target language.
  3. Adjust screenshot frame: As needed, adjust the default position and size of the screenshot frame in overlay settings.
  4. Select translation service: Built-in mode can be used directly; if you need better quality, richer services, or offline use, switch to "Custom" mode to configure an API, or switch to "Local" mode to use the local translation model.
  5. Enable voice translation (optional): If you want to use voice translation, enable it in Basic Settings and confirm that the microphone/speaker devices and voice translation engine are configured.
